What to expect

At Lewis Golden we offer the opportunity to obtain a professional qualification while learning on the job and gaining practical experience. We support learning, professional development and advancement. Being a training firm has a wider meaning, applying not only to trainees, but to throughout the practice with an emphasis on learning from each other. Technical and soft skills are equally valued. We make time for training and pay for relevant courses at any career stage, as we feel that we are each responsible for shaping our careers and the firm encourages and nurtures that.

Our trainees work closely with experienced managers and partners, who support and supervise the learning process. Whether working in a small team or the wider firm, collaboration is a key component of our success. Everyone is encouraged to communicate, support one another and work together regardless of role or job title. The size of the firm enables us to keep in touch with each other and feel like we are one group, made up of individuals who all offer different strengths and perspectives. Each new team member is allocated a buddy to help with settling in and a mentor so they get the most out of the learning experience.

You can expect regular appraisals and feedback, a formal performance review and a salary review every six months during your training.

Our program

Our accountancy training programme recruits graduates and school leavers. The ACA, Chartered Accountancy, qualification has graduate entry and instils the business knowledge and professional skills which are crucial to the expertise of our team at Lewis Golden.

We typically recruit 5 or 6 ACA trainees each year split over intakes in August and January. We are proud of our exam success. In recent years, our trainees have won awards from the ICAEW’s regional student societies and HAT for their exam performance. We attribute this to their dedication, hard work and the experience they gain with us.

Qualifications

The AAT, Accounting Technician, qualification provides a foundation in accounting. Many of our AAT students complete the qualification and go on to study ACA, or another Masters-Level accountancy qualification at the firm.

We offer the foundational ATT, Tax Technician, qualification and the CTA, Chartered Tax Advisor, qualification in both our Personal Tax and Business Tax teams.

There is also an opportunity for students who are progressing well through their Accounting studies and want additional tax training and expertise to do the joint ACA CTA program.

How it works

Our professional training programmes are structured within an apprenticeship, which provides additional support and personal development opportunities. We work with Kaplan, one of the largest apprenticeship training providers in the UK, to meet the Education and Skills Funding Agency (EFSA) requirements.

The HAT Group also support us with technical and soft skills training through a series of professional development courses and quarterly technical update meetings.
